“I’m equally certain that we will continue to pray for justice to roll down as waters, and for that day when there will be peace in the valley, and for that day when every man and every woman will sit under his or her own vine and fig tree and none will be afraid, and for that day when black will not be asked to get back, brown can stick around, yellow will be mellow, the red man can get ahead, man, and white will embrace what is right! Amen!”
Amen indeed!
Guess The Inaugural Benediction speech was not approved before it was given-- Lowery is a Bigot-- Whitie is no different than using the "N" word... Where are we headed as a Nation? This is awful!
ReplyDeleteMan is one thing an white is another-- white is less than being a man.
ReplyDeleteWhat a horrible end to an uplifting event. The first black president is elected and this man hopes one day "white will embrace what is right"? Whites are 66% of America. They just put a member of a 13% minority into the most powerful office in the country. What was he thinking? What can he want?
ReplyDeleteCouldn't agree more, not only about the comment, but also OUR new President's response -- he enjoyed quite a chuckle. What a disappointing ending to a historic day.
ReplyDeleteMy goodness -- your lack of exposure is showing. The Rev. flipped the words of a rather negative rhyme from the civil rights movment to a positive statement of unity -- but then you would need to know the old twist to have any appreciton of the positivity of this prayer.
ReplyDeleteBut then iit is easy to jump to the negative if that is all you know. Wake up -- his words were on the mark and the president got that.
TO HELP THE UNINTIATED UNDERSTAND:
ReplyDeleteFROM A PAINFUL PAST:
If your Black, get back
If your Brown, stick around
If your White, you all right
If your Yellow, you mellow
If your red, you're dead
TO AN OPTIMISTIC FUTURE:
“I’m equally certain that we will continue to pray for justice to roll down as waters, and
for that day when there will be peace in the valley, and for that day when every man and
every woman will sit under his or her own vine and fig tree and none will be afraid, and
for that day when black will not be asked to get back, brown can stick around, yellow will
be mellow, the red man can get ahead, man, and white will embrace what is right!
Amen!”
The Reverend forgot he was praying to God and thought it a good idea to preach to people.
ReplyDeleteNever is prayer mixed with preaching. I agree, it was a tasteless end to a superb ceremony.
